And so it goes. > Kurt Vonnegut<

I had an occasion to visit the campus of North Chatham School recently.  We were attending a soccer game being played by two of my grandchildren.  I was concerned with the amount of garbage at the edge of the woods and the athletic fields.  There were the remains of a garbage bag with garbage scattered all around.  I believe this needs to be brought to attention of the faculty/staff of North Chatham School.  To those who complain that I should have picked up the trash rather than saying anything about it, salud.  It would have taken about three forty gallon trashbags to hold it; and where would I put it after I had picked it up. There were no trash cans around that I could see.

But already suns, it seems, are shining
-from very far away and timidly-
but already heralding a bright new day.

Thanks for the posting. I personally cleaned and emptied all garbage cans (four of them) three times since the Chatham Soccer/Challenge  league began play this fall. That involves taking my truck to pick up the cans. You don't want to know what I've found in them. I have had new soccer nets destroyed, garbage tossed into the woods, The field used and abused by other groups than the CSS, etc. I have requested twice since September that all CSS coaches police their areas after games and ask parents to supervise their non playing children (which the powers that be passed on to the coaches). It is a public facility, but in the future it may be that it becomes off limits if folks don't help to care for the upkeep. And yes, we do have that option. Our gym is another example. It receives a great deal of play by the Rec League and AAU ball in addition to our own use. We receive no funds for upkeep. It is trashed on a regular basis. It's difficult to maintain in a good economy, let alone this one. Just to refinish the floor each summer costs $1000. We have one full time custodian for 900+ students at NCS, so the upkeep of our fields/gym falls on me or a few good souls. We would love to have parents volunteer to help our cause, but if our booster club is any example it's the same five or six folks all the time. I will be taking down the nets (ours and CCS) and policing the area before winter break. When I walk by trash on the ground  I usually pick it up. If more did the same it might set an example. Well more so, it needs to be brought to the attention of those that attend the events perhaps to not just toss their trash to the wind Upside the head

Been at NCS for years and soccer games, we have had this problem for years the slack and lack of respect from some of the students, players and PARENTS that don't pick up their own trash.  Have picked up behind them as JMIDD has and will probably continue until people show respect for the grounds.

I am sure those people that don't pick up trash or drop trash don't do this at home!

It's an all round problem at all the schools.

Start with the coaches who need to make their players clean up their own mess after games.  Parents need to make their children clean up also.

Parents/coaches/teachers whoever needs to say something to people who leave their trash behind.

There's no accountability or consequence.  Kids get new uniforms bought for them without ever lifting a finger to earn the money.  They walk out of the gym and leave their trash and or uniforms behind.  When I look at the conditions of the locker rooms and closets at NW I really can't blame the kids, when the example being set by the adults says they don't care either.
