Pittsboro, N.C. — The Chatham County Board of Commissioners voted Monday not to put off the county-wide property revaluation and to use updated values when tax bills are sent out January. You can expect this type of thing, it is after the election. Politicians are scum, they lie to get elected and keep lieing so they can get re-elected. The bad thing is people won't remember this when election time rolls around again.
Values won't go down because homes haven't been selling. They do not have enough data to formulate a proper re-evaluation.

I'd be curious to know the foreclosure rate in Chatham County and how that will affect the revaluations. From what I understand, a lot of banks are going to start selling foreclosures at drastically low prices just to unload the large amounts most are carrying. Most of my family lives in Florida and it is terrible there. Although if your in the market for vacation property, now is the time. Any thoughts?

My opinion is that they are going to put in minimal increases and then come out with some big PR blitz that they are not raising our property taxes. If the increases are not minimal then it is the duty of every citizen of this county to flood the tax office with complaints and make the review board have a desk full. Push back.

It's not like Chatham is the only county at the crossroads of revaluation time and at the timing that values have trended downward supposedly nationally. Depends on if we are still a hotter market than some surrounding areas perhaps (if we are up or down in values). It will be interesting to see how it plays out for sure. Lesser values equal lesser revenue to the county, building slow down? Less pressure (theoretically for schools), except we have been BEHIND so long on that, it's a wash and beyond.
