Dear citizens and business owners,
This issue has been discussed for years. I believe the citizens will have the opportunity to vote on this issue next spring. Please read the letter below:
George Lucier, Chair Chatham County Board of Commissioners 12 East Street Pittsboro, NC 27312
Dear Chairman Lucier:
At our October 27, 2008 meeting the Town Board received an update on the current status of Pittsboro's ABC Board. We are pleased to announce that with the hard work of the new ABC Board, new staff at the store, and cooperation with the County's ABC Board and staff the store is once again profitable. The aforementioned good news means the Pittsboro ABC Board will be issuing the appropriate distribution checks to the Town of Pittsboro, Pittsboro police department, and the Chatham County Law enforcement department. (Please see the attached letter from the Chair, Harry Sugg.)
After the update on the Pittsboro ABC Store, the Town Board discussed liquor by the drink. Our board unanimously decided to request that the County Board of Commissioners place liquor by the drink on the ballot as a referendum for the citizens of Chatham County to decide.
Given the interest by the many citizens and businesses and the fact that liquor by the drink has been cited in the strategic plan of the Chatham County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), I have attached the appropriate section of our approved minutes authorizing this request and respectfully request that the County Board of Commissioners consider the matter and move expeditiously to hold a county wide referendum specifically on liquor by the drink.
Respectfully,
Randolph Voller Mayor of Pittsboro
CC: Pittsboro Town Board, Pittsboro ABC Board, Chatham County Board of Commissioners, Chatham County ABC Board, Chatham County EDC

Dear Mama Cash and Wolfpack Fan: Thank you for the emoticon toast. Next spring we can all pull together and ensure that this referendum passes. Besides helping local businesses passing this ballot initiative will ensure that Pittsboro will finally be able to attract a hotel or two on the US-64 bypass and 15-501. Regards, Mayor Randy Voller

Mayor Voller is just throwing in his support and an official request to bring a referendum. I third the toast!

PBO can call their own referendum for liquor by the drink within the town limits, but it would be better if the whole county was involved at the same time.

Oh spare me.
This vote was timed to come in while no major initiatives are on the ballot.
I see right through it. I hope that other social conservatives do.

And by social conservatives, I assume you mean "people who object to alcohol for religious reasons." You are free to abstain, but that choice shouldn't be forced on the rest of us by law. Particularly, it shouldn't prevent us from securing some businesses that can provide us with some badly needed tax dollars.
